The satellite digital streaming service Sky Go, which allows premium on-demand content from Sky to be streamed on PC and mobile devices, is getting a download option.

Users of Sky Go need to be paying subscribers to Sky, will be asked to pay extra for the download service though. There will be no restrictions on the number of movies and shows downloaded, you can fill the memory of your device. But after downloading users must watch them within one month.

As an introductory offer the Sky Go Download service will be free for the first two months, then current subscribers will have to pay £5 extra month.

Sky say that over 2.5 million of it’s 11 million subscribers use the Sky Go service, however users can currently only stream over WiFi. The extra offline streaming service will be welcomed by everyone, but paying for it when they already subscribe may not go down so well.

Sky is currently fighting for control of the UK streaming market against Netflix, Lovefilm, and Amazon video. Where they definitely win is with the quality of content. Offering first run movies and hit TV shows that are bang up to date. Netflix and Lovefilm have been criticized for lack of, and dated content.

Sky also offer the Now TV service launched in 2012, which offers a streaming service to non subscribers. It is not known if a download option will be available for this, although it would make sense.

The new Sky Go Extra service app will be launched for a number of mobile devices, including Android and iOS devices. Confirmation will be announced when the app launches next week.
