Google’s popular TV dongle ‘Google Chromecast’ could soon be looking to make a similar impact outside the USA, after apps for the service were made available internationally.
Engadget report that users around the world, including in Canada and the UK, have been able to access the streaming platform’s Android and iOS apps recently, hinting that a release of the budget product itself will not be too far behind.
That potential global release for the Chromecast would most likely coincide with the launch of two upcoming Google properties, as the Nexus 5 smartphone and Android 4.4 KitKat operating system prepare to roll out both in America and internationally.
With the service developing fast in its home market, the leaks of availability could soon open the floodgates of Chromecast to the wider world, but will they enjoy the same popularity elsewhere as they have done in America?
At the very least, release of the Chromecast around the world will be able to provide another decent boost to Google’s revenue figures, after the search engine giant announced their financial results for Q3 2013 recently, with a total of $14.9b of income generated during the 3-month period, which included the July release of Chromecast in America.
The figures recorded by Google note a year-on-year increase of $1.5b in this department, higher than numbers predicted by major analysts. As were the ‘earnings per share’ rate of $10.74 (compared with external forecasts of $10.36). The numbers contributed to a ‘total profit’ of $2.97b, whilst the ‘net cash flow’ was measured in at $5.08b.
Meanwhile, it was also announced that Google-owned mobile phone company Motorola were responsible for $1.18b of revenue (8% of Google’s total), whilst Google stock market shares rose to $53 after the announcement.
Google’s CEO Larry Page issued a statement on the matter, summarising: “Google had another strong quarter with $14.9 billion in revenue and great product progress. We are closing in on our goal of a beautiful, simple, and intuitive experience regardless of your device.”
