Sky Television in New Zealand is the latest streaming media company to create a Windows 8 app, and users who get their hands on Windows 8 on October 26th can have access to it. The app, which will be a free download through the Windows App Store will let Sky TV subscribers create their own program guide for their favorite channels.

For current Sky TV subscribers who are using the app on Apple iOS and Android OS devices, they will be right at home. Alex Winter, Product Manager at Sky TV says “the search and personalization features were easier and more elegant because of the Windows 8 interface.” The brand new operating system from Microsoft has been tailored for both desktops and tablet computing devices.
“With a touch screen you can very easily move your favorites’ around and reorder them. It also allows us to get on to a new class of devices–desktops,” Alex continued. The app was created by Smudge, who also developed the Android OS and Apple iOS versions of the app. Sky TV believes a future app could utilize Windows 8′s “tiles” feature by providing a live feed of a television network as the title displayed.
Analysts have been concerned that many consumers are simply not upgrading to Windows 8, nor will they be purchasing several of the new (and expensive) tablet computing devices. Regardless, streaming media companies like Netflix, Hulu and now Sky TV are jumping aboard the Windows 8 bandwagon to ensure access for all of their subscribers–no matter the device.Image may be NSFW.
